by FiveShadows inokay, when i need advice, i usually come to this place because everyone is able to help in one way shape or form.

system profiler is the way to go, there you can see if you have wireless. To get wireless in a mac tower you basically need to have the wireless card installed inside the machine (its a small card and not pci). You could also look up on apple's site "how to install wireless card in G5" to see exactly were it is located inside your machine, that way you can just open it up and look.
If you don't have one in there you just have to get the card and pop it in, either that or you buy a 3rd party device that hooks up via usb or pci slot (mac compatible of course)
If your new to mac you may want to get some training on the OS just to help you out. Lynda.com is pretty good.

The Biggest B.S. stories you've heard from a talk
by superman ina few years ago at a convention, they related a story of a jw who was shot during service.
but rather then stop and get medical attention (like a normal person would have done) they moved on to the next door to finish the street.
when they got to the house the householder just so happened to be a (you guessed it) nurse!

If you guys were interested we actually had a ex-mormon on the board a while back who revealed that the "two angels" story was actually in fact a mormon rumour that eventually found its way into witness circles.

My experience at the District Convention today - Appreciate your comments
by BonaFide ini know i am the one to constantly harp on this board how the organization has lost its "swagger" and the baptism and attendance is going down, and people are waking up.. not so fast.. the audience cried, i mean a lot of people cried when they played some of the songs from the new songbook.
some had bethel singers who sounded pretty good singing them.
so many after the program were saying how touched they were.. then the new release of the book showing how the book of acts prefigures the organization today.

Does this really surprise anybody? This is what conventions are designed to do.
Much of what we take into consideration when discussing the future of the org is not the people who are now associated, but those who may potentially convert in the future as well as the children, especially those under 30 (you know, the kind that were demonized in the drama!)
That Watchtower rhetoric stirs people up emotionally should be no surprise at all. All those people despretly want to believe it is the truth. What else was going to happen?
The Watchtower is in a state of stagnation. Their theology is rapidly becoming outdated, and their overall message no longer has the excitement it once did. They will need to adapt and change if they want to be viable in the future. So far they have only focused on window trimming (change around some meetings, differant magazines, new books). This is far from the kind of change they really need.

The Watchtowers exsistance "proves" the Bible is true
by drew sagan inpeople validate their own reilgious experiences in a variety of differant ways.
for example, many in the power of prayer and see all of their life events as tied directly to the will of god.
others believe that they have been witnessed or experienced miracles of healing and revelation.. jehovah's witnesses are unique in that they typically ignore traditional means of verification, seeing them as superstitious, overly emotional, and self absorbed.

People validate their own reilgious experiences in a variety of differant ways. For example, many in the power of prayer and see all of their life events as tied directly to the will of God. Others believe that they have been witnessed or experienced miracles of healing and revelation.
Jehovah's Witnesses are unique in that they typically ignore traditional means of verification, seeing them as superstitious, overly emotional, and self absorbed. Despite this, JWs still go about process of validation. I think it just happens to be more subtle (and possibly a bit more intersting).
As a person converts to the JW faith they begin to adpot a unique worldview. "Gods people" are on the move, preaching that the end is near. All of the worlds religions are corrupt and evil. The worlds political systems also are corrupt, and the United Nations is about to destroy religion as we know it. Essentially, there is one giant world conspiracy against Gods people and the truth which has manifested itself in many differant ways. As a person converts, they begin to see the world in these terms. Worlds events validate their belief that "the end is near" and that humanity will soon be subject to Gods wrath.
As a Witness I began to draw on these things not only as proof that the JW experience was valid, but also used it to validate my belief in God. I wasn't seeking to experience God through prayer or mystical experience, instead I experienced him by living through the JW worldview.
This especially extended to the organization. I eventually came to believe (as I feel many JWs do) that it is basically Gods responsibility to provide us with an organzation. Think about all those times the Watchtower told us how loving it was for God to give us his organization. I think many JWs eventually come to believe in the opposite of that statement. If such an organization was not in exsistance God would not have been doing his job. It's easy to see how many JWs get the feeling that if there was no organization God would be cruel and unloving.
What's interesting about this IMO is that JWs will give more wieght to these things than other issues. Usually the evidence given to support the validity of the Bible and the exsistance of Jehovah are rather bland and lack depth. However, information that builds up the miraculous nature of the organization is overflowing (think Revelation book vs. "Is there a creator who cares" book). So it seems to me that the way in which a Witnesses experiences and validates his belief in God (not just his faith in the organization) is more directly tied to the organizatinal experience.
Just kind of ranting a bit...

I hate the CO
by superman inso i was talking to my mother the other day, and she was distressed because she was saying that if my little sister isn't baptized or working toward it by the time she's 18 (which is coming up soon) she may have to move out (more then likely she'll move in with me and my girlfriend, or my older sister if that happens).
my little sister is a great kid (high honor roll, no trouble, hard worker, etc), that many parents would be grateful to have.
i asked my mom, why would they take parenting advice from a guy who doesn't (and hasn't) ever had kids?

VM44, thanks for pointing this out. I am very interested to see if this is something that will be coming on strong from the Society or if it is just a few CO's out there.
My wife currently has a good relationship with her parents even though she is DF (only her mom is a baptized jw). If they start asking for tighter restrictions I am under the belief this will really anger my mother-in-law. She has said enough to my wife to reveal that she "doesn't believe everything", that "DF'ing is a punishment not a caring provision" that "meetings are terrible" and has at various times encouraged her to lie to the elders to get reinstated so that she can have a relationsihp with her sister who currently shunns her. The more that time passes the more it seems she realizes what the WTS is wrong.

BREAKING NEWS: WATCHTOWER IS STILL A MEMBER OF UN- SOURCE SAYS.
by Scott77 ini have read today this quote from one member on facebook going by the name of ruth eeker.. .
based on her quote, she states that "as well in regards to the un, the society has various name versions registered still in the un.
so they are still not completely out of the supposed beast!".

At this point this simply appears to be evidence that the Watchtower is actively participating in United Nations sponsered activities. A pretty grey area being that they can always make the point that lobbying the UN on behalf of their members is simply a basic right they have, something that does not require active support of that organization.
